MINUTES

DECEMBER 20, 2017

Meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm which began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Bill Klish and followed by a Moment of Silence for our departed neighbors.

 

Secretary Report by Dory St. John:

·         Minutes from the November 15th meeting have been posted on the EMNA Website.

·         Correspondence has included: Sympathy cards sent to the Gasparri Family and the Jacovino Family.  A Thank you card was sent to Joe Geary and a Thank you card was received from Selim Noujaim which was read by Mike Stere.

·         Two new families have moved into the East Mountain neighborhood on Shadybrook Lane and Quarry Hill Road.

 

Treasurers Report by Colin Coburn was presented at the meeting and will be on file.  If anyone would like any additional information regarding this you may contact Colin Coburn.

 

City Liason Officer Mike Ptak was not in attendance.

 

Community Relations Officer Tiffany Healey reported:

·         A Gang Task Force has been implemented and there have been several arrests made.

·         Several detectives have been added to the Street Crimes Unit and the Traffic Unit.

·         There have been 20 new graduates from the Police Academy.

·         Residents expressed concerns regarding the 4 way stop on Peach Orchard Rd., speeding on Rte. 69, and speeding on Deering Lane.

 

Neighborhood Watch Commander Bob McGovern had nothing to report.

 

Former Community Officer Matt Lemos spoke briefly and wished everyone a “Merry Christmas”.

 

Community Property Project Hon. Tom Brunnock reported:

·         There has been an appeal on the excavation of 840,000 cubic yards of material on the property with 216 trucks per day for 5 ½ days per week entering and exiting the property.

·         More briefs have been filed.

·         There will be more news regarding this in March.

 

 

 

State Representative Stephanie Cummings reported:

·         The Legislature is out of session for the holidays.  They will open up session on December 29th. 

·         The Medicare Savings Program still remains an issue and will be voted on in January.

·         She thanked everyone for the donations to the Humvee Drive.

·         A change has been made regarding state taxes on pensions.  These taxes will be paid in increments rather than in one lump sum at the end of the year.

 

Old Business:

·         The Christmas Tree Lighting took place on December 3rd at the East Mountain Golf Course.  The tree will remain in place until January 10th.

·         Larry Devino mentioned that Brian Michaud was there with his bucket truck to help put the lights on the tree.  Many thanks to him.  There are 3,600 lights on the tree and many of these will need to be replaced next year.

·         All food donations were sent to St. Vincent DePaul.  Many thanks to all that donated.

 

New Business:

·         Jan Perigard is stepping down from keeping the scrapbook and we will need a volunteer to take over this duty.  If anyone is interested, please contact Mike Stere or any other officer.

·         Residents expressed their disappointment that the Christmas Tree, Menorah, and Creche were no longer on the Green. Because the live tree was diseased and had to be taken down, they were moved to Library Park.
