EAST MOUNTAIN NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION

MINUTES

JUNE 20, 2018

 

Attendees:  36

Meeting was called to order at 7:15pm which began with the Pledge of Allegiance and followed by a Moment of Silence for our departed neighbors.

 

Henry Northrop Scholarship Grant Award:

·         This year’s award was presented to Elizabeth Wolfgang an East Mountain resident who was home schooled.  She will be attending Benedictine College in Kansas in the fall.  She will be majoring in English.

 

Community Relations Officer Tiffany Healey reported:

·         There were 15 calls this month.  All of them were minor – littering, dumping, and motor vehicle violations.

·         The traffic unit is back 5 days per week depending on manpower.

·         There will be one mounted unit in place

·         She encouraged residents to call her regarding any issues in the neighborhood.

 

State Representative Stephanie Cummings reported:

·         The Legislative Session will resume on Monday.

·         Two bills were vetoed by Governor Malloy:  Education Cost Sharing Bill (ECS) and the Manufacturing Apprentice Tax Credit Bill.  They will try to override these vetoes during this session.

·         Harpers Ferry Rd. Bridge will be closed from June 25th through August 26th.  Traffic will be rerouted via Reidville Dr. and Silver St.

·         I-84 will be open to 3 lanes in both directions in October, 2018.

·         Scott Rd. Bridge will be completed in October, 2018.

·         Plank Rd. will be open to two way traffic by December, 2018

·         There will be a meeting at Crosby High School this Tuesday from 6:00-8:00pm regarding the Mixmaster construction.

 

Alderman George Noujaim reported:

·         The Board of Alderman is in the process of finalizing this year’s budget.  The mill rate will remain the same at 60 mills.  The car tax will increase to 45 mills.

·         There was a “Meet Your Alderman” meeting on June 5th at Cavallos.  C.J. May was the guest speaker.  He gave an update on recycling.  Since the new green receptacles went into effect, recycling has increased 40%.

·         The Board of Alderman will be on recess July and August.

 

Alderman Mike DiGiovancarlo reported:

·         District 4 now has a new Facebook page.

·         Purdy Rd. had a car break- in.  The doors were not locked.  He encouraged residents to report all break-ins, etc.  to the police.

 

 

 

Secretary’s Report by Dory St. John:

·         The minutes for the May meeting are posted on the EMNA website.  A brief summary of the May meeting was read.

·         Minutes from today’s meeting will be posted on the EMNA website.

·         Correspondence included:  A get well card was sent to Bob Perigard.  A sympathy card was sent to the Hardy Family and a sympathy card was sent to the Serafine Family.

·         Two new families moved into the East Mountain Neighborhood on East Mountain Rd and Fleetwood Dr.

 

Treasurer’s Report by Colin Coburn:

·         Current report for May was presented at the meeting and will be on file.  If anyone would like any further information regarding the Treasurer’s Report please contact him.

·         Motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report by Greg St. John, 2nd by Dave Muccino.  Motion carried.

 

City Liaison Officer Mike Ptak reported:

·         He has not heard from OMG regarding the summer Movie in the Park.  It will be posted when things are finalized.

 

Neighborhood Watch Commander Bob McGovern:

·         A video was taken by a resident regarding the car break- in on Purdy Rd. and will be investigated.

 

Community Property Project Hon. Tom Brunnock - absent

 

Old Business:

·         We are still in need of someone to take over the organizing the scrapbook for Jan Perigard.  Please contact her if you are interested in volunteering for this.

 

New Business:

·         Volunteers are needed for the Annual Newsletter.

·         Movie in the Park information will be posted on the website when finalized.

·         Volunteers are needed to clean up and plant flowers on the hillside near the flag.

 

Motion to adjourn by Stephanie Cummings. All in favor.  Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 7:50pm followed by a pot luck supper.
